Salt is a mineral largely consisting of the mineral sodium chloride which helps us add flavor to our food. Sodium plays a very important role in biological functions including muscle contraction, fluid balance, and nervous coordination and hence it is very important to include it in our diet.


What is Pink salt:


As the name states Pink Himalayan Salt is pink in color and extracted from the Kewra salt mine located near the Himalayas in Pakistan. Like salt, it also comprises sodium chloride.


Benefits of salt:

Natural harvesting of Himalayan salt retains around 84 different minerals. In regular salt, these minerals get lost during the refining process.


Himalayan pink salt has a lower level of sodium and is good for hypertension patients.

Himalayan salt is also used in bathing to improve the skin and reduces soreness.


You will see a lot of health claims regarding Himalayan pink salt. There is hardly any research claiming Pink salt is better than common salt but we can always consider it as a great natural alternative with hardly any different health benefits. They are also more expensive than common salt and would need more quantity than common salt to get the taste.


So just to conclude the maximum salt intake allowed to consume is 1tsp per day. So avoid taking uncooked salt over meals on salads or curd. Limit salt to cooked food and avoid packaged foods as they are loaded with sodium and preservative. Afterall quantity of salt we eat makes all the difference
